PL PRESENTS' JOURNEY

How it all started (2015-17)

In 2015, after enjoying a 5 day TV presenting course at TV Training Academy’s iconic Pinewood Studios (London), I set up my own ‘PL presents’ YouTube channel so that I could upload my show reel from this course.

Whilst in a full time 9-5 office job at the time, my enthusiasm to expand my portfolio grew.  So I researched different subjects and talking points that I could do presentations and interviews on (initially as a hobby in my spare time).  These included, sport, local interest and business promotional.

Birmingham City University – BA Hons Media Production (2017-20)

Realising this wasn’t just a spare time hobby but a career change I really wanted to make, I made the bold move in 2017 to return to full time education as a mature student to study BA Hons Media Production at the renowned Birmingham City University (BCU).

When studying at BCU, I embraced every opportunity to gain as much media experience as possible securing different placements in the process.  These include the 2019 Sky UK scholarship (Content Services dept) where I won their ‘Best performer’ award.

At Birmingham TV, I volunteered as a Sports Reporter in the 2018-19 football season on ‘West Midlands Live’ and at Big City Radio, Birmingham in 2019 as a Researcher and co-host.  At university, I have worked as a presenter on both BCU’s Scratch TV & Scratch Radio stations from 2017-19.

Post graduate TV & Radio experience (2020 – present)

Since graduating in 2020 with a 1st class honours in BA Hons Media Production, I have gained further TV and Radio experience.

At Sky UK, I worked in their Content Services dept for over 18 months before enjoying a News Story Producer role as a freelancer on BBC Spotlight (South West) and gained experience at ITV Central & Cymru in their News Broadcast teams.

My radio journey has continued at Switch Radio in Birmingham as a Sub Editor & Reporter covering Sutton Coldfield Town FC men’s side before becoming a Radio Presenter with my own specialist ’90s Dance Rewind’ show (Sundays at 7pm – UK time).  On Switch Radio’s website, I have several written theatre reviews published for shows I have attended in Birmingham.  I have also worked as a Shadow Reporter for BBC Radio WM, Bauer Media (Free Radio) and Global Radio.

Freelance Runner & Researcher roles (2023 – present)

I have continued to gain freelance roles as both a Runner and a Researcher within TV production.  In October 2023, I worked as a Runner for Team ITG at their Tamworth studios on a Co-op Christmas online commercial video/photo shoot.

In 2024, my freelancing roles have included TBI Media as a Runner at The National Lottery’s Paralympics GB Homecoming (Utilita Arena Birmingham) broadcast on Channel 4 in September.  In October, I worked as a Runner/Driver for Wall To Media (part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK) for TV series Car S.O.S. broadcast on National Geographic UK.  Then in November and December as an Events Assistant for ADP Events (in conjunction with Vintage Trains) for The Polar Express event at Moor Street Station in Birmingham.

I have also worked as a Researcher for The Birmingham Fashion Council to contact potential sponsors for the 2024 Birmingham Fashion Week.

YouTube and online blogging)

I have continued to produce and present videos and for my YouTube channel and as a Portsmouth FC fan I enjoy writing match day blogs and sight seeing tours from both their men’s and women’s away games for a fans website called ‘Pompey News Now’.  Then on Switch Radio’s website, I also do theatre reviews for different productions I watch in Birmingham.

I have a real burning desire to build on both my media degree and my TV and Radio experience with any exciting new opportunities.
